Child Labour

Let Them Fly

While writing this article, I really hope that soon words like child labor will disappear from our lives. But for now, they are in our lives and we have a fight with it.

According to the International Labour Organization, the work that damages children’s health threatens their education, and leads to further exploitation and abuse is called Child Labour which is prohibited worldwide by laws. Child Labour is something that is not only against the laws but it is also against humanity. Here are the few questions that we have to answer as a part of this human community, that what will happen if those children who are the foundation of the future of the world are pushed to work in factories and farms? What will happen if minors who should get the exposure to education are forced to earn their livelihood? What will happen if innocent faces that should be sparked with smiles will burn in front of furnaces? So the answer is that all these things will crush our dream of an ideal world. Child labor has its roots all around the world from African countries like Nigeria and Ethiopia to Asian countries like India and Bangladesh. Global estimation and trends of 2000-2012 based on data of the International Labour Organization, UNICEF, and World bank suggest that 168 million children aged 5 to 17 are engaged in child labor. Also in the world's poorest countries, slightly more than 1 in 4 children are engaged in child labor. This is a terrible truth that we have to accept.

International Labour Organization and UNICEF are International foundations that are continuously working towards the elimination of child labor around the globe. Also, ILO has sanctioned the 12th June as 'World day against child labor' to spread awareness regarding child labor. United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has chosen the year 2021 as the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour and has asked the International Labour Organization to take the lead so that this can be achieved and Millions of children get freed from the trap of child labor. All these are the efforts that have been taken by different foundations. But what we had done from our side?
We all want to see the improved and better world. But the question is what we have done to make this change happen?
